Received a letter from Mr. Robert Spring of Baltimore, containing a check with Geo Washington's signature, dated November 17, 1795. I place it in this book as a curiosity of the owner, and art of the engraver of that time. It is a relic and worth preserving. I paid $_____ for this autograph. (NOTE: The check had been removed from the diary many years ago.)
