Historic Daniel Lady Farm readies for Holiday House Tour
` November 30, 2015 – The Daniel Lady Farm will again be part of the annual Holiday House Tour and Tasting sponsored by the Inns of the Gettysburg Area Association from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12.
Period reenactors from the American Living History Education Society will supply a festive look into the family celebration of Christmas in the 1860s and the decorative techniques used to deck the halls. Musicians, including the GBPA’s Venture Crew 1861 Boy Scouts, will play period music. Guides will provide insight into the history of the Danial Lady Farm, its involvement in the Battle of Gettysburg, and its service as a Confederate headquarters and field hospital.
Adding to the authentic atmosphere will be the tempting smell of German foods of the period. The lady volunteers of the farm will welcome visitors with samples of authentic foods that the German heritage Lady family members may have passed around their holiday table.
Also featured will be wine tasting from the Adams County Winery.
The Daniel Lady farmhouse has been one of the most popular stops on the annual tour. Last year a heavy snowstorm failed to deter a large crowd of visitors from crossing its threshold.
Other participating tour locations will include:
Christ Lutheran Church
HGAC- Historic Gettysburg Adams County House in the GAR Building
Lightner Farm House Bed & Breakfast
James Getty Hotel
Swope Manor Bed & Breakfast
The Inn at Herr Ridge
Baladerry Inn
After the tours, a performance of “Songs and Stories from a Civil War Hospital” will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in the evening. .
Proceeds from the 19th annual Holiday House Tour will benefit the Food Pantry and Homeless Shelter of the South Central Community Action Program.
Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at any of the Inns of the Gettysburg Area. They also will be available the day of the event at the participating tour sites.
