Living with War—Soldier and Civilian Survival Skills

FREDERICK: Disease, artillery, and destroyed crops were killers during the Civil War. Discover how both the soldiers and civilians survived day to day during the Civil War. Union and Confederate armies occupied the farms that encompass what is today Monocacy National Battlefield throughout the war. Join the staff of Monocacy National Battlefield and living history volunteers to explore the impact of war on soldiers living far from home, and how war affected the local farmers and civilians.
Infantry demonstrations will take place at the Visitor Center at 10:00 a.m., 2:00 a.m., & 4:00 p.m.
At 1:00 p.m., Ray Owens, National Recording Artist, Award-winning Singer/Songwriter and Entertainer, will perform Civil War era music. Ray will be presenting his award-winning “Civil War Period Show” - a time when some of the most memorable American music was born. Experience the beloved ballads, stirring stories and stouthearted songs that inspired a nation to greatness. Music performances will continue throughout the afternoon.
