NEWS RELEASE
Lady Farm Christmas season tradition continues Dec. 10
Nov. 29 -- Once again, the Historic Daniel Lady Farm will be decked out for the Christmas season to welcome participants of the annual Holiday House Tour and Tasting sponsored by the Inns of the Gettysburg Area Association from 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10.
Period reenactors will supply a festive look into a family celebration of Christmas as the Lady family may have celebrated in the house in the 1860s. Period decorative techniques will festoon the house.
Musicians, including the GBPA’s own Venture Crew 1861 Boy Scouts, will play period music. Guides will provide insight into the Civil War era Christmas along with the history of the Daniel Lady Farm, its involvement in the Battle of Gettysburg, and its service as a Confederate headquarters and field hospital.
Adding to the authentic atmosphere, visitors will be treated to savory ham and bean soup ladled from an iron kettle.
The Daniel Lady farmhouse has been one of the most popular stops on the annual tour.
The day will begin for Holiday House Tour participants at the Dobbin House on Steinwehr Avenue in Gettysburg.
Now part of the Dobbin House Tavern, the house was built in 1776 and was part of the Underground Railroad used to help escaping slaves from the South. Decorated for a colonial Christmas, the Dobbin House will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
From noon until 5 p.m. tours and tastings will be hosted at the Historic Daniel Lady Farm and:
The Little Round Top Farm
Christ Lutheran Church
Grand Army of the Potomac Hall
Swope Manor Bed & Breakfast
The Inn at Herr Ridge
Baladerry Inn
Lee’s Headquarters
After the tours, at 8 p.m., a candlelight performance of “Songs and Stories from the Civil War” will be held at Christ Lutheran Church in the evening. .
Proceeds from the 20th annual Holiday House Tour will benefit the programs of the South Central Community Action Program. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at any of the Inns of the Gettysburg Area. They also will be available the day of the event at the participating tour sites.
