NEWS RELEASE
Memorial Day weekend at the Daniel Lady Farm
(May 21, 2017) – The Historic Daniel Lady Farm will continue its tradition of saluting veterans over the Memorial Day weekend.
The farm on Hanover Street will again host Military Time Line, an encampment and living history weekend with reenactors and displays representing American fighting forces from the Revolution through the Persian Gulf War.
Hours for the event are 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Featured will be three mobile World War Two museums, reenactors of the 505th PIR Airborne (Parachute Infantry Regiment), trucks and jeeps, Civil War reenactors, Civil War apothecary display, display on war correspondents from the Civil War to World War Two, and hospital tours of the Army of Northern Virginia 2nd Corps hospital at the Daniel Lady Farm.
Admission is $10 for adults. Children 12 and under are admitted free of charge.
The Lady Farm is owned and operated by the Gettysburg Battlefield Preservation Association.
The 145-acre farm includes a fieldstone farmhouse begun in the 1820s and an 1842 German-style bank barn. Both have been restored to their 1863 appearance
The two-story house was a hospital for Confederate officers and was the headquarters of Maj. Gen. Edward "Allegheny" Johnson. Blood stains can still be seen on the floors of the house.
The barn hospital serviced wounded and dying enlisted men. It is marked by graffiti left by soldiers in 1863 and when some revisited the site in later years. Both buildings display battle scars from the epic engagement.
Thousands of Confederate troops assembled on the farm for the assault on the Union-held Culp’s Hill.
While the Lady Farm will remain open on Memorial Day itself, the reenactors will be breaking camp to participate in the Memorial Day parade in Gettysburg.
