28. Brigadier General John Cook, U. S. Volunteers, will immediately report to Major-General Hooker, commanding the Northern Department, for assignment to the command of the District of Illinois.

29. Brigadier General H. E. Paine, U. S. Volunteers, at his own request, will be relieved in command of the District of Illinois, and has leave of absence for thirty days, to take effect after he turns over his command to Brigadier General John Cook, U. S. Volunteers.

I. The following-named officers, having been assigned to the Twentieth Army Corps, are hereby relieved from duty in this district: Lieutenant Colonel H. C. Rodgers, assistant adjutant- general; Lieutenant Colonel S. H. Sturdevant, commissary of subsistence.

II. Captain Francis W. Fox, assistant adjutant-general, is announced as assistant adjutant-general of the district.

III. Captain James C. Brooks, commissary of subsistence, is announced as a member of the personal staff of the major-general commanding, and all orders conveyed by him to his department, in the name of the major-general commanding, will be obeyed.
