HDQRS. SEVENTEENTH ARMY CORPS, No. 252.
In the Field, Ga., October 9, 1864.This command will move at 5 a. m. to-morrow, in the direction of Kingston, as follows, viz: First, the THIRD DIVISION, Brigadier- General Leggett, will take the advance; second, the First DIVISION, Brigadier-General Fuller, will follow the THIRD DIVISION; THIRD the artillery brigade, Captain Williams, will follow the First DIVISION; fourth, the Fourth DIVISION, Brigadier-General Belknap, will follow the artillery brigade.

I have not heard from either General Sherman or Rousseau to-day, but all is quiet along the railroad from this point to Allatoona. I have learned from rebel prisoners in our hands belonging to Forrest's command, and confirmed by some of our men who have escaped from the enemy, that the road from Montgomery to Tuscumbia, via Meridian and Corinth, has been repaired, and is now being operated by the enemy. In view of the probability of this report being true, I have suggested to General Sherman to strengthen General Granger's command sufficiently to hold the north side of the Tennessee secure as far down as Eastport.
