During the necessary sepaeration of the general commanding the department fro his deaprtmetn proper, and until further orders, Major General N. J. T. Dana, commanding Dixteenth Army Corps, will execise command over all the troops and garrisons not present with this army in the field.

The geneal headuqarters of the departmetn will be established at Memphis, Tenn., under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Wiliam T. Clark, assistant adjutnt-general, who will preservet he records, a dn make such returns and reports as may be required by the War Deaprtment,
