GENERAL: Colonel Evans reports that the movement spoken of in his dispatch took place, about 2 p. m. to-day, and appeared to be about a division of infantry, which moved inside of their works toward the Charles City roads and toward the enemy's left. All quiet on his line. Scouting parties are out the line in every direction. I will report the result of their operations.

Captain Masten, First New York Mounted Rifles, who has just returned from a reconnaissance to White's Tavern, on the Charles City road, reports the road strongly picketed and extensive bivouac fires in the vicinity of White's Tavern, which is about a mile in front of these entrancements of the enemy. I have still another party out that I expect to hear from soon.
