GENERAL: I have the honor to report that I have two brigades [of] this division on the Halifax road at the junction with the Wyatt road, with one regiment near Rowanty Post-Office, picketing toward Gravelly Run and Ream's Station. I have sent a regiment on a scout to and beyond Rames' Station, to ascertain if there is any movement of enemy in that direction. My command will be supplied with forage and rations to-night.

The major-general commanding direct you to send a force of 300 men, mounted or dismounted (as you may deem proper), down the Vaughan road and drive the enemy all they can, and, if possible, over Gravelly Run. If this force is attacked by a force of the enemy greater than they can stand, they will fall back on the main boyd. Please report the result as soon as possible.
