GENERAL: The commanding general directs men to inclose a copy of a telegram* just received from the War Department, and to say that as your confirmation as brevet major-general from September 9, 1864, instead of August 1, 1864, fixes you rank as such junior to that of Brevet Major-General Miles, you will turn over the command of the Second Corps to that officer and resume command of your division.
