I have received the dispatch from the commanding general directed jointly to your and myself. Please tell me what you intend to do, so that we can act in concert. It is reported that the enemy's camp in my front are abandoned, but that he left a more than ordinarily strong picket-line. An officer is now examining the from of the line, and I will have more definite information shortly.

I am ordered by General Meade to ascertain what changes, if any, have been made in the enemy's lines in my front, and if I find advantage can be taken of this movement to notify him. I ordered out reconnaissance to ascertain this at 6.45 a. m. They find the enemy manning their works neat the Skinner house and Armstrong house. Other reconnaissance are going on.
