We have arrived here safely. Demonstration of deep feeling and respect all along the route. Minute guns fired and bells tolled. The car nearly filled with flowers sent in at every stopping place. Reached Jersey City at 10 exactly.

The Secretary of War directs me to call your attention to the following order, issued by Brigadier-General Gordon, and to say that he has directed its revocation:

HEADQUARTERS DISTRICT OF EASTERN VIRGINIA, Numbers 32.
Nortfolk, Va., April 22, 1865.Pursuant to instructions received from the headquarters Department of Virginia, paroled officers of the insurgent army's are informed that they will be furnished free passage and passports to Halifax, should they desire to go abroad. Paroled mechanics who, or without their families, wish to go to Philadelphia, New York, or Boston are informed that on taking the oath of allegiance they will be furnished free passage to those cities.
