November 26, 1863-12 m.General HUMPHREYS, Chief of Staff:
I have a regiment of infantry and a squad of cavalry over the Rapidan. The bridge will be completed in a few moments. About two regiments of rebel horse passed across my front coming from the direction of Ely's Ford. Gregg has crossed at that point. Only a few cavalry pickets were at this ford.
