I do not know whether or not to use this route would take Generals French's and Sedgwick's batteries out of the way. I think not, if they moved by daylight, so as not to get lost.

No other news. Lieutenant Matthews brings this and awaits orders.

Yours, &c.,

G. K. WARREN,

Major-General.

HEADQUARTERS THIRD ARMY CORPS,
Jacobs' Mills Ford, November 27, 1863-5. 45 a. m.

Brigadier-General CARR,

Commanding Third Division:

GENERAL: You will move your division forward as soon as General Prince's division shall have moved; you will keep well closed up on the Second Division. You will look well to your right flank, throwing a strong flanking party well out.

By command of Major-General French:

O. H. HART,

Lieutenant-Colonel, and Assistant Adjutant-General.

HEADQUARTERS THIRD ARMY CORPS,
November 27, 1863-7 a. m.

Major-General HUMPHREYS:

But one battery has come in; the others are on the road. They have been working twenty-four hours and have had no feed. Captain Randolph reports the horses fagged out. One battery goes with my head of column.

Respectfully,

WM. H. FRENCH,

Major-General of Volunteers.

[P. S.]-General Prince reports seeing troops moving over a ridge toward Verdierville during the night. He watched them passing an hour a half.
