I have ordered the only remaining brigade of my division to occupy the place of the brigade of the Sixth Corps just withdrawn. Our line is very thin. Colonel Brewster reports that the enemy are placing a battery in front.

[General HUMPHREYS:]

GENERAL: The Fifth Corps is in sight moving up on my left. As soon as I get communication with General French, I intend to move forward and attack. Some musketry and one cannon shot has been heard in front of the Fifth Corps. Slight skirmishing in front of mine. We have possession of a road coming in from General French, besides the forks of a road leading from Raccoon Ford.
