Dispatch just received from General Echols. At 7 p. m. yesterday, enemy, not less than 2,000 strong, were pressing Colonel Jackson, and within 3 miles of him, advancing by the Beaver Creek route. Suppose they came from Huntersville. General Echols is in motion to relieve Colonel Jackson. No more from the Kanawha yet. May not some of your troops be needed?

At 7 o'clock last night the enemy not less than 2,000 strong were within 3 miles of Colonel Jackson, and pressing upon him. They were advancing by the Beaver Creek route. Keep in communication with General Echols, and watch for any advance on your lines.

Telegram received and communicated to Colonel McCausland. If the number of the enemy is estimated correctly, you can readily manage them. Have directed Colonel McCausland to keep open communication with you and advise you of any move on his front. Will forward your dispatch immediately, and ask the general commanding to assist you, if necessary.
