SIR: My brigade proper (consisting of the Sixty-second Illinois, Forty-ninth Illinois, Fiftieth Indiana, and Twenty-seventh Iowa, together with Vaughn's and Kidd's batteries) numbers-marching strength- 2,300, with ample transportation. The two negro regiments and the One hundred and eight Illinois have 1,100 effective force, with deficient transportation.
