Commanding Cavalry Brigade:

SIR: The general commanding directs me to acknowledge receipt of your not of this date,* and to state that he is much pleased with its tenor. He sends with this the Seventh Pennsylvania, and is very glad that you can sustain yourself with it. Keep the general constantly and fully advised of your movements. Send couriers here direct. The 20 men with General Van Cleve go to you with the Seventh Pennsylvania. Captain Moreau and the rest of the couriers from the Sequatchie are, I expect, at Gordon's Mills. If so, take them also.
