This interesting report of the artillery arm is forwarded, and I cordially indorse all that General Barry states as to the efficiency of the artillery and the good care taken of horses and guns. Some substantial reward should be devised for artillery officers, who seem almost debarred promotion.

SIR: I have the honor to inclose herewith a report of all ordnance and ordnance stores captured from the enemy in the campaign commencing February 1, 1865, and ending March 23, 1865. All of these stores were throughly destroyed except two Blakely rifle guns, one 20-pounder Parrott, and one 12-pounder mountain howitzer, which were brought along by the army as trophies. I inclose also a list of the expenditures of ammunition by the army during the campaign.
