New Berne, N. C. March 2, 1865.The division will be ready to move to-morrow at 7 o'clock. All surplus baggage will be stored at New Berne. A small guard, not to exceed one man to a regiment, will be detailed by brigade commanders to take charge of the baggage until it can be brought forward. All the baggage will be stored in one place, and the details left will report to Lieutenant Patton, acting assistant quartermaster, First Brigade, for instructions. The troops will carry the intrenching tools until a wagon can be had for that purpose; at least 100 axes, 100 spades or shovels and 25 pickaxes to a brigade.

I send report of the garrisons at Smithville and Forts Caswell and Fisher by messenger, which will reach you in the morning. * I have landed my men here and relieved the First Connecticut Heavy Artillery, who are now embarking. The Second Pennsylvania and my men are now doing the duty. This is correct, is it not? Please answer.
