GENERAL: I am directed by the major-general commanding to say that the expects to have Brevet Brigadier-General Blackman ordered to report to him for assignment to duty in this corps with his brevet rank. The commanding general has had some previous acquaintance with General Blackman and believes him to be a good and reliable officer. If you desire it General Blackman will be assigned to your division; if not, he will probably be assigned to the Third Division.
