Your telegram to Brevet Major-General Wilson is just received. I respectfully suggest that the sentence, "In the meantime it is also agreed that the position of the enemy's forces must not be altered to our prejudice," be so modified as to read, "In the meantime it is also agreed that the position of the forces of neither bellgerent shall be altered to the prejudice of the other," and that on this principle you direct Major-General Wilson to withdraw from Macon and release its garrison.
