GENERAL: General Johnston desires you to march immediately and encamp two or three miles this side of Greensborough. There is a good deal to be done at that place and it will be better to rest there.

GENERAL: If I am correctly informed it is General Johnston's orer that the old trains of the Army of Tennessee should be retained by Major McMiken. The general is absent this evening, or I would give you a positive answer to your inquiry. Your corps will not move to-morrow.

GENERAL: General Hampton directs me to say that he desires you to hlat where you are until further orders, keeping your pickets well advanced toward Chapel Hill. Send out good scouts to ascrtain whether the enemy is moving to or across the Haw River, and if he is moving you will cross the Haw River and operate upon his flank. Watch his movements closely with scouts. General Hampton doeas not desire you to move unless the enemy is moving.
