Brigadier-General WHIPPLE:

GENERAL: I have arrived here with train of forage, and others following. The bridge at Carter's Creek being destroyed, cannot go any farther. Supplies are ordered, and will arrive as first as possible. I have ordered 40,000 pairs of shoes and stockings, also quartermaster's stores, &c. A telegraph operator should be sent here at once. A telegraph station here is absolutely necessary.
