Pulaski, Tenn., December 28, 1864-12 m.

Major General J. H. WILSON,

Commanding Cavalry Corps, Military Division of the Mississippi:

GENERAL: Your dispatch dated Pinhook, December 27, 12.20 p.m., is just received. The major-general commanding directs that as soon as you have ascertained that the rebel army has crossed the Tennessee River, that you move your command, with the exception of Hatch's division, back to this place, that they may be supplied with forage. He directs that you send Hatch's division, of your command, to Eastport, as hi wishes at least enough cavalry on the Tennessee River to operate in conjunction with General Smith's command, which has been ordered to that place. If Hatch's division cannot move from where they now are to Eastport, he directs that they return to this place, to be furnished with supplies and then move, via Lawrenceburg, Waynesborough, and Clifton, to that place.

Very respectfully, your obedient servant,

HENRY M. CIST,
