Assistant Adjutant-General:

I have not received nor heard anything of the instructions referred to in your dispatch of the 1st instant from Pulaski as having been sent to me, though I have telegraphed to you since my arrival here about them. I should be glad to be furnished with these instructions at once, as without them I am totally ignorant of the commanding general's wishes and instructions.

Brigadier-General WOOD:

A report has been received that the rebel General Lyon crossed the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad between Decherd and Elk River bridge. He was going in the direction of Larkinsville or Huntsville, with the intention of trying to cross the Tennessee River. The major-general commanding directs that you keep a good lookout for him and capture and destroy his command should the report prove true.

GENERAL: Please hold a brigade of your division in readiness to go to Decatur, Ala., to re-enforce the garrison at that place. The brigade will be transported by rail, and I will let you know when to move it to depot.
