VII. Colonel Charles R. Thompson, Twelfth U. S. Colored Infantry, is assigned to the command of the troops and defenses on the Nashville and Northwestern Railroad. Commanders of regiments on that road will forward all reports, returns, and current papers through Colonel Thompson.
VIII. The detachments of the One hundred and sixth, One hundred and tenth, and One hundred and eleventh Regiments U. S. Colored Infantry are assigned to duty on the Nashville and Northwestern Railroad. The commanding officers of those detachments will report to Colonel C. R. Thompson for orders.

I do not believe there is any considerable force of the enemy in this country. The number and strength of guerrilla squads have been increased during the campaign. I consider James G. Brown a very unreliable individual. Will forward my report as soon as I can get reports from brigade commanders. Have sent Gowin's Sixth Tennessee Mounted toward Summerville, via La Fayette. Will advise you of any change in situation.

IV. Colonel N. S. Andrews, Twelfth U. S. Colored Artillery (heavy), is hereby relieved from duty with his regiment and announced on the staff of the general commanding as chief of artillery for the Military District of Kentucky, with headquarters at Lexington, Ky. He will be obeyed and respected accordingly. This order to date from July 25, 1864.
