Baker's brigade is essential to Mobile. All available troops will be forwarded, if possible. Sherman has destroyed the bridge over the Ogeechee, on the Gulf and Savannah Railroad, and is threatening Savannah.

Corps commanders will send at once to Pulaski all transportation not actually necessary with the troops. Brigade ordnance wagons will be sufficient to retain. Reserve ordnance wagons will be sent to Pulaski.

GENERAL: I have just written to General Cheatham to come to this side of the river as soon as he can, and also to Forrest to follow Cheatham as soon as he safely can. General Hood directs that you will cross your command as soon as the cavalry is over, or at the earliest moment thereafter you deem safe, going into camp on the Pulaski pike.
