HEADQUARTERS,
Tupelo, Miss., January 12, 1865.

Lieutenant-General STEWART,

Commanding:

GENERAL: I have just received your note of this morning about your present camp. General Hood says you can move near Verona whenever you think best, but give timely information, that supplies can be placed there for you; also get all the information you can of the roads leading toward West Point and Columbus. No furloughs will be granted till the railroad is cleared of sick, wounded, and stores, and a general system commenced for the whole army.

Yours, respectfully,

A. P. MASON,

Lieutenant-Colonel and Assistant Adjutant-General.

RICHMOND, VA., January 12, 1865.

General R. TAYLOR,

Meridian, Miss.:
