HEADQUARTERS FIFTH ARMY CORPS,

GENERAL: I have the honor to send herewith a sword and flag captured from the enemy. From the best information I can obtain, I believe the sword to have been taken from the body of the rebel General Barksdale on the field of battle. The flag was captured by Brigadier-General Kilpatrick in the fight at Hanover.

GENERAL: In obedience to Paragraph III, Special Orders, Numbers 227, headquarters Army of the Potomac, I have the honor to report that no guns were captured from this command by the enemy during the recent operations in Pennsylvania and Maryland. One gun and two caissons, belonging to this army, were recaptured from the enemy by a portion of this command.
