SIR: I have arrested the principal orator to the mob-a Southern man, by the name of Andrews. Please send an order to Colonel Martin Burke to receive him from me immediately. He is now on his way to Fort Lafayette, the only disposition I can make of him.

SIR: You will receive and keep in safe custody any prisoners that may be delivered to you by the United States marshal, who have been or may be arrested for participation in the New York riot. Acknowledge the receipt of this order, and state whether you require any additional force for their security.
