I am called on by the post quartermaster for guard of supply trains to front this evening at 6 o'clock. Cannot possibly furnish it and protect the post. Can General Weber send here 400 men for that purpose at 6 o'clock, or at any other hour this evening?

I have only 900 men for duty; half of this number on duty every day. It, is therefore, impossible to send you the men you ask for. All the militia regiments have been sent from here to guard supply trains. Send as many men as you can without endangering your post.
