It shows on hand 31st August 51 barrels 185 pounds 12 ounces pork, 23,605 pounds 12 ounces bacon, 1,086 pounds 8 ounces of ham.

Question. You can state whether this includes the provisions collected from about the country here at that time.

My own statement includes what was actually in my hands at the dates mentioned, and Captain Little's statement purports to do the same with regard to what was in his hands, and the recapitulation includes both.

Question. What I want to know is whether that includes any part of the provisions gathered up about the country?

No provisions gathered up about the country came into my hands directly. Those foraging parties returned nothing into my hands directly.

General BUELL. Make a calculation from these returns, if you please, and state how many rations of meat and bread were on hand on the 31st of August.

Question. At what time did General Buell's army come to Nashville from Murfreesborough?

I do not recollect, sir.

Question. When that army arrived do you remember whether rations were issued to it or not?

I issued rations to a portion of it myself.

Question. Have you anything to show how much you issued?

Yes, sir; I have an abstract of issues to the troops. It mentions the dates for which they drew rations and shows the regiments they were issued to.

Question. The several divisions of General Buell's army there had supply trains, had they not?

They usually had them, but I cannot answer positively with regard to that.

Question. I want to know whether rations were delivered to be taken with the army besides those that were actually issued to the several commands?

I issued provisions to General Thomas' division for the purpose of moving.

Question. Have you the papers to show the issues?

I issued on one Sunday to, I think, twelve regiments or more.

Question. I would like you to bring up the papers to show what you issued to the several commands in General Buell's army.

I only issued on provision returns, not in bulk.

Question. Who issued in bulk?

Captain S. J. Little. Captain R. Macfeely is the chief of the subsistence department, and he is the proper person to furnish the returns the Commission requires.
