have you included all the regiments which are entered under the head of unattached infantry on this report?

No, sir.

Question. How many regiments have you omitted?

Three regiments were omitted. I see by glancing at it again another should be omitted, Colonel Warner's, the Eighteenth Kentucky, I think, which was also in Kentucky.

Question. What further change would that make in your statement as to the force on the south side of the river?

It would make a difference of 733, making the entire strength 46,504.

Question. What was the force at Cumberland Gap?

Seven thousand six hundred and two.

Question. How was the balance of the force employed that was not included in these two items?

It was in Kentucky, a portion of it, guarding the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. I do not know the exact disposition of the remainder, but it was posted throughout Kentucky.

Question. Does the form which is used for these official reports show the actual effective strength of the troops in the ranks?

No, sir.

Question. What does it include?

It shows the entire number for duty; it includes the extra and special duty men.

Question. When did the two divisions arrive which came from Corinth; I mean the two divisions that came from the Army of the Mississippi?

The first, General Mitchell's, arrived between the 1st and 3rd of September, I believe, while we were at Murfreesborough. The other, General Paine's division, came into Nashville after we left there; it must have been after the 11th of September.

Question. What was the date of the arrival of the headquarters of the army at Bowling Green on its march to Kentucky?

We arrived at 6 o'clock on the morning of the 14th of September.

Question. How many divisions of the army were there at that time and whose divisions were they?

Two divisions were there; General Rousseau's and General Wood's.

Question. What divisions were yet in the rear?

General Ammen's, General Crittenden's, and General McCook's.

Question. Is that all?

General Mitchell's had marched from Nashville, I presume, as it overtook us at Bowling Green.

Question. Do you know when General Mitchell's division arrived at Bowling Green?

I do not know the exact date; it was either on the 15th or 16th of September.

Question. Do you know the date of the first attack on Munfordville?

It was on Sunday, the 14th of September, I think.

Question. When did the army march from Bowling Green north?

Most of it marched on the 16th of September.

Question. When did it reach Munfordville?

It was either on Sunday or Monday, the 21st or 22nd of September; I do not recollect which.
