the railroad seized and destroyed without more force. I have asked for aid at Nashville, but they stand on some etiquette, which I pay no attention to. I beg you to send re-enforcements sufficient to drive the enemy and to prevent his coming upon us from Tennessee.

HEADQUARTERS, Louisville, July 10, 1862.The rebels under Starnes, 2,000, with three pieces of artillery, passed from Sparta, Tenn., crossing the Cumberland River into Kentucky, cutting up Major Jordan's command of three companies of Ninth Pennsylvania. They are moving from Tompkinsville to Glasgow. I have all my available force at Munfordville and Bowling Green. I have not sufficient force to drive them out. I have called for re-enforcements from Nashville. I have advised General Buell by telegraph. We are much in need of more troops in Kentucky. I can extemporize a good force if I could pay them soldiers' wages.

LOUISVILLE, July 11, 1862.
I have 1,800 men at Munfordville and one company of artillery. Bowling Green in not threatened now. Morgan issued proclamation yesterday (10th) at Glasgow. He has moved forces toward Lebanon. Firing going on at Lebanon to-night. Train with 500 soldiers left Lebanon Junction at 8 o'clock; has not arrived at Lebanon at this time. Will send other re-enforcements to-night and in the morning. General McCook was expected here to-night. If he comes I will avail myself of his aid. With assistance from Nashville by Gallatin and Scottsville, Ky., we could cut off Morgan.
I have used all the convalescent soldiers here. Governor Morton will send to-morrow 600 men. I am fearful of matters at Lebanon, as my re-enforcements did not reach there by rail. I will telegraph you fully to-morrow.
