JULY 18, 1862.-Raid on Henderson, Ky., and Newburg, Ind.
REPORTS.
Numbers 1.-Gov. O. P. Morton, of Indiana.
Numbers 2.-Brigadier General William K. Strong, U. S. Army, commanding District of Cairo.
Numbers 1.Reports of Gov. O. P. Morton, of Indiana.
INDIANAPOLIS, IND., July 18, 1862.
The rebels have taken possession of Henderson, Ky., on the Ohio, below Evansville. They have also crossed the river and taken Newburg, Ind.; killed one of our men and taken 250 of our sick in hospital prisoners. They took 250 arms and destroyed the hospital stores. A boat has left Evansville with arms. I will send an extra train with artillery, arms, and infantry immediately.
O. P. MORTON.
To the SECRETARY OF WAR.
INDIANAPOLIS, IND., July 19, 1862.

Arms for the State Legion are greatly needed.
O. P. MORTON,
Governor.
Honorable E. M. STANTON, Secretary of War.

The boys in hospital were armed and wanted to fight, but the surgeon ordered them to lay down their arms. Governor Morton has ordered the arrest of the surgeon. Two citizens of our State, who brought the rebels over and remained after they left, were killed by our citizens. We have sent a sufficient force to Henderson, under General Love, of our State Militia, to clean out Henderson, Webster, Davis, and
