Enemy reported marching up Sequatchie Valley in force to form junction with Morgan's command. Should Morgan attempt movement toward Kingston, Stevenson must attack if possible and prevent it.

The major-general commanding directs that you put yourself in advance and on his flank, so as to keep apprised of all his movements, and operate against home as well as circumstances will permit. Inform General Forrest and Colonel Morgan of this movement of Buell's army, and keep the commanding general advised of all his operations.
