COLONEL: I have the honor to send you, hereto annexed, copies of reports dated 24th of July, 3rd and 8th of August, received from Colonel R. F. Maury, First Oregon Cavalry, commanding expedition against Snake Indians and upon the emigrant road. There seems every likehood that he met Captain Crawford with the emigrant escort from Omaha, Nebr., on the 20th instant with the head of the emigration at the crossing above Fort Hall. I promised Captain Crawford to endeavor to thus arrange the movements of Colonel Maury, as see my plan set forth in my letter to you of the 10th of February last. Colonel Maury's dispatch of the 24th of July from Camp Numbers 25, Boise River, Idaho Ter., is as follows:

I have the honor that having been supplied last evening by Captain W. B. Hughes, assistant quartermaster, with the necessary outfit, my command this morning retumed the march. The animals of the expedition are not in as good plight as when we arrived at Boise River, but I shall endeavor to be at the crossing beyond Fort Hall between the 15th and 20th proximo.

SIR: I have the honor to report that I left Fort Walla, Wash. Ter., this morning with Companies A, D, and E, of the First Oregon Cavalry, consisting of 7 officers and 212 enlisted men, en route for Fort Lapwai.
