Commanding District of Humboldt:COLONEL: I have the honor to acknowledge receipt of your communication of the 26th of September, and in reply am directed by the general commanding the department to say that he cannot send any more troops to the District of Humboldt; that he has no doubt but you will be able to raise the two other companies of your battalion, and that writh your knowledge of the country and the people, and being fertile in resources, you will be able to get along.
