September 29, 1863.
GENERAL: Lieutenant Earl, of the Fourth Wisconsin Cavalry, in command of a squad of 40 men, marched last night as far as the Amite, and returned this morning with 14 prisoners, with their horses, arms, and equipments. Among them wee two notorious guerrilla chiefs, one known as Colonel Hunter and the other as Captain Penny.
Major-General Herron brings the news that Logan is at Morganza Bend, on this side of the river, about 7 miles below Morganza, with from 2,000 to 3,000 men and four pieces of artillery.
General Herron will arrive in New Orleans to-day.
It is presumed that Logan's force have all been ordered to Liberty, Miss.

The guns have arrived, and the workmen are busily engaged in constructing platforms for them, which will soon be ready.
