Before Port Hudson, June 14, 1863.

I. 11.05 p. m.-One section of the Fourth Massachusetts Battery will report, without delay, to Colonel Prince, commanding Seventh Illinois Cavalry. An orderly from these headquarters will guide the section to Colonel Prince's position.

II. 11.10 p. m.-General Grierson will immediately send to Colonel Prince a re-enforcement of 300 men of his command, and will hold the remainder of his command in readiness to move at short notice.

SIR: In reply to your note of this date, I have the honor to state that I will send out to meet any party you may wish to send in with such medicines and hospital supplies as you may desire to send for your wounded in my possession.

I take the liberty to inform you (deeming that you are probably ignorant of the fact) that there are a few of your dead and wounded in the vicinity of my breastworks, and I have attempted to give succor to your wounded, but your sharpshooters have prevented it.

ADMIRAL: Major-General Banks desires me to inform you that a negro has just arrived in camp who reports that he left Simsport on Tuesday last, and that Kirby Smith was then there with considerable force. The man says that he ran away that night, and joined our gunboats at the mouth of Red River the following morning; that the commander of the gunboat (which he thinks was the Lafayette) took him on board
