The district staff will remain as at present constituted, with the addition of First Lieutenant G. G. Bennett, Nineteenth Iowa Volunteers, aide-de-camp and acting assistant adjutant-general.

Send a competent commissioned officer with about thirty men to Loup Fork to retain and take charge of the pontoon bridge now on the way there from here. It is in charge of Lieutenant-Colonel Thielemann, assistant engineer, who will give the full instructions. They will remain at that point to guard and preserve the bridge. One hundred of Twelfth Missouri Cavalry, well equipped, came here with bridge. On their arrival at Loup Fork, where the bridge is placed, they will be subject to Your orders; the balance of the battalion will follow them from here as soon as mounted.
