New Orleans, July 5, 1864.Captain Oliver Matthews, assistant adjutant-general, U. S. Volunteers, having reported at these headquarters, in compliance with paragraph 4, Special Orders, Numbers 55, from headquarters Military Division of West Mississippi, is announced as assistant adjutant-general of the Defenses of New Orleans, to date from the 2nd instant, at which time he reported for duty. He will be obeyed and respected accordingly.
