Major- General BLUNT:

We fell back to- nigh toward Pleasant Hill. I have ascertained to a certainty that it is Jeff. Thompson who took Sedalia. Shelby is in here, though from all accounts they are advanced at Dresden, reported 700 int he advance. Will make arrangements with the authorities here and at Pleasant Hill to post you in the usual manner.

It is rumored that General Blunt is to supersede General Sykes in this district. General Sykes has the confidence of this entire community, knows the strength and disposition of his troops, and is vigilant. Our people deprecate any change and respectfully urge that none be made.
