Your paper speaks of 3,000 being ready in the city, and says 10,000 more will turn out in the State. Do not give clue to numbers. If anything be said talk of 25,000 or 30,000. We must depend a good deal on bluster till we get stronger than we are. The whole enrollment of militia in the State is over 23,000.

GENERAL: Inclosed herewith please find two notes in cipher from Captain Allen L. Anderson, U. S. Army, in command of Fort Whipple, Ariz. I have ordered a small company of cavalry to add to the strength of his garrison, to proceed with a train of supplies from Fort Wingate to Fort Whipple, and send two mountain howitzers and a good supply of ammunition in the train.
