I. In addition to the command of the cavalry forces, the undersigned hereby assumes direct command of Lee's cavalry division, owing to the ill health of the general. The division staff remains unchanged and will report to me direct.

II. Colonel Abraham Bassford, Fourteenth New York Cavalry, is hereby relieved from duty with Lee's cavalry division, and will report in person to Colonel E. J. Davis, First Texas Cavalry, commanding Second Division, for assignment to the command of the brigade composed of the First Louisiana and First Texas Regiments of Cavalry.
