Columbia, S. C., February 2, 1865.Captain H. A. M. HENDERSON, Cahaba, Ala.:
CAPTAIN: Your letter of January 13 has been received, and I am directed by the general commanding to inform you that the Federal money in your hands you will hold subject to the order of the Quartermaster- General or his authorized agent. I shall notify Captain C. Morfit, assistant quartermaster at Richmond, that you have that amount. He has charge of all these moneys. The Government pay five for one, that ration having been fixed by the Quartermaster- General. When the quartermaster pays for the greenbacks yo can pay yourself for what you have advanced, for that money then becomes the property of the prisoners.
