GENERAL: I have the honor to inclose herewith a tabular statement of rebel prisoenrs of war, showing thenumber on hand at the date of last report, December 31, 1864, the number captured and held in possession since that date, the number exchanged, released, escaped, &c., and the number captured and paroled belonging to the armies of Generals Lee, Johnston, Taylor, Kirby Smith, and others; also, a statemetn showing the number of Federal trooops held by the rebels as prisone rs of war and delivered by them for exchange to Federal agents between December 1, 1864, and October 20, 1865. A more detailed report* is in preparation, whih will give as far as practicable a full account of all prisoenrs captured by the enemy during the war, and for the same period the number of prisoenrs captured by the U. S.forces, the number held at each of themilitary prisons and the disposition made of them, alnd all other particulars with regard to them that it may be desirable to place on file. The report will also show the business of the office in conection with other branches of the service.
