GENERAL: I have the honor to state that there is sufficient forage within 4 miles of Dallas, Mo., to supply one company of cavalry until May 1, 1864. The condition of the country in the vicinity of Dallas requires the presence of troops to protect if from the depredations of guerrilla. The signers of the inclosed petition I know to b loyal men, becoming personally acquainted with them while in command of that post last spring. I would respectfully ask, if consistence with the service, to be ordered with my company to that point.
